A night of Holy Spirit encounter in the Bronx, and a vision for Designated Prayer Officers
On Thursday, September 17, officers, ministry leaders, families, and friends filled love, Power and Grace Church in the Bronx for the Police Officers for Christ General Membership Meeting. We came for dinner and fellowship. We left having encountered God.
Many people were touched by the Holy Spirit that evening. Some came in carrying the weight of the job, and some came simply hungry for more of Jesus. Hearts softened, and tears came. A room full of people who spend their lives protecting others spent an evening being ministered to.
A Message From Someone Who Has Walked in Their Shoes
Our guest speaker was Ilya Kosilov, founder of Casa de Angeles Ministries and a former New York City police officer. He knows what it means to wear the uniform, and he knows what it means to be changed by Jesus. He shared how God took his experience in law enforcement, ministry, and international missions and gave it new purpose. His message was about faith, transformation, and the courage it takes to answer God's call.
His story showed the room something we believe deeply: God can use every profession and every willing life for His Kingdom, including a badge and a patrol car.
Praying for Those Who Protect Us
The moment that stayed with many of us came when we prayed over the officers in the room. The Holy Spirit moved mightily, touching hearts and transforming lives. We asked God to strengthen and protect the men and women who serve, in the streets, in their precincts, and in the homes they return to after a hard shift.
The Vision: Designated Prayer Officers in Every Command
We also shared a vision that excites us: D.O.P.s, Designated Prayer Officers, in every command.
The idea is simple. In every command, there would be an officer who is committed to prayer, someone fellow officers can turn to when they need someone to stand with them before God. Every officer deserves someone praying with them, and we believe this could change the atmosphere in a command, one prayer at a time.
